NFL Position Rankings - Tight Ends

1. Jason Witten
Without question the best all around TE in the NFL. Jason Witten does it ALL and does it all great. He's a great run blocker, great route runner, has great hands, and just knows how to get open. Nobody makes more big catches on crucial 3rd downs that Witten. He's been Romo's security blanket the last couple years.

2. Antonio Gates
Antonio Gates is the best receiving TE in the league. He's also extremely athletic and agile for a man of his size. Gates causes extreme matchup problems for defenses as he usually draws double teams at times from the TE position which is extremely rare. Gates is a game changer and EVERY team that plays San Diego knows they've got to gameplan against this guy.

3. Dallas Clark
Dallas Clark is another TE of the Witten Mold. He's not the most athletic nor is he even the biggest and strongest but he gets it done similar to his teammate Reggie Wayne. Clark is probably the best route runner at the TE position. He's always in the right place at the right time for Manning coming up with big catches and making big plays. Solid blocker as well another all around TE.

4. Vernon Davis
Vernon Davis is easily the fastest and most athletic TE in the NFL or that the NFL has ever seen. This guy is faster than alot of receivers actually it's crazy. Vernon still needs to work on his all around game as far as sharpening up his route running and being a better run blocker but he's still one of the most dangerous receiving threats in the NFL for any position.

5. Chris Cooley
Chris Cooley is another one of those do it all TE's. He's been a veteran leader for the Redskins offense for years. Great hands, runs routes well, blocks, and brings solid intangibles to the position. Cooley is definitely top 5.

6. Tony Gonzalez
Tony Gonzalez without question is the Greatest TE to ever play in the NFL it's not even close. But as far as right now goes he's at the end of his career and on the decline. However despite his age still a very productive player and still does it all like he always has just not quite as fast or effective.

7. Kellen Winslow Jr.
Kellen Winslow Jr. is another really gifted player athletically. Has alot of the same issues as Vernon Davis though. He lacks motivation at times and its been said he's not the hardest worker. Could also look to improve his blocking. But he's still a very dangerous receiving threat as no LB in the league can matchup or safeties.

8. Brandon Pettigrew
A very talented young TE on the rise is Brandon Pettegrew. Brandon Pettigrew is extremely gifted physically at 6'5 265. He also has incredible leaping ability as he'll go get any ball thrown in the air his way. Also possesses good quickness and feet for his size Pettigrew will definitely be a top 5 TE in a couple years.

9. Heath Miller
Maybe the slowest and least athletic TE on this list is Heath Miller. Which is why I don't think he gets the respect he deserves but Heath comes to play and comes up big in big games. He is propablly the best run blocker on this list it's not even close. He also is very good at pass blocking as well as he can pick up and hold his own against some of the best pass rushers in the NFL where as most TE are only good for chipping or doubling in pass blocking. It's not all about blocking with this guy either he's a solid receiver. Good hands and runs solid routes. Also a terrific possession guy as he makes catches in traffic as good as anyone.

10.  Marcedes Lewis
Marcades Lewis finally busted on the scene last year and played like the Jaguars have been waiting for him to do for some years now. He led all TE's in touchdowns as he was quite the red zone threat. At 6'6 275 he has a huge advantage in the red zone and tho not the fastest he can still move for a guy of his stature.
