Peyton Manning was released on March 8th by the Colts as they look to rebuild around luck and move into a different direction. Since that time he was pursued by the Broncos, Titans, Dolphins, 49ers, Redksins, Seahawks, and 49ers. I'm sure other teams had interest as well but those were the main teams. It came down to 3 final teams Den, Ten, and SF. Ultimately Peyton decided today to play for the Broncos and have agreed in principal to a 4 year with terms still being negotiated.
Analysis: In my opinion this was a great move for Denver. They had a mediocre starting QB and were too far back in the draft to get an upgrade so they turned to Free Agency and scored what is possibly the greatest NFL free agent of all time. The deal is supposed to be set up where if Peyton's neck injury is an issue the Broncos are protected. So with that in mind this is a low risk deal because if Peyton is healthy he's gonna be a pro bowl QB and if he's not healthy the Broncos can get out of the contract. People say this was a bad move for Peyton but I disagree. I think he had better options in SF and Hou but other than that this was a good move. Why go play for the Titans where you'll still be on a team that's not as good as Hou or to MIA where your behind NE. I'm shocked he didn't choose SF that's where he should've went but if not there Den isn't the bad choice people are making it out to be. The Broncos won this division last year and when you add Peyton to the mix along with any other FA's they sign and draft picks, there's no reason why Den shouldn't be the favorites to win this division again. The Broncos don't have the best talent at the skill positions but I have to believe that if Peyton signed here then they have a plan to do something about that. I can't fully judge whether or not Peyton made the colossal mistake everyone is making his decision out to be until I at least see what the teams final roster will look like heading into training camp.
