NBA Awards 2012

Me and some of the other well informed sports fans on twitter came together and voted for all the individual awards from this past NBA season. I also will have the All Buck teams at the end as well.

MVP - Lebron James

27.1 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 6.2 APG, 1.9 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 53% FG, 30.80 PER
This was one of the easier selections to make among the panel. Lebron received almost all of the 1st place votes for MVP as I imagine he will when they vote for the real thing. But he's my MVP and twitter's MVP it seems as well. Lebron James had one of the most efficient seasons in NBA history. To me what made it so special was the fact that it was a lockout year. In a season where many of the players around the league came in out of shape and out of rhythm Lebron James was ready to go from the 1st tip of the pre season game and hasn't let up since. His statistics are phenomenal as always but he showed he can carry his team even without the other superstar talent in D-Wade as the Heat were very sucessful and some say even looked better when he wasn't in the lineup. He's clearly this year's MVP.
My Candidates:
1. Lebron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Chris Pual
4. Kobe Bryant
5. Steve Nash

Defensive Player of the Year - Lebron James
I personally felt like Tyson Chandler should get this award and in reality he's most likely going to but the panel was in majority of Lebron over Chandler by 1 vote. Lebron certainly is deserving of the award as well. He's defending everywhere for Miami all year both in the post and on the perimeter. He wreaks havoc in the passing lanes which often cause demoralizing fast breaks. On ball he's also one of the best and he's one of the best help defenders and can recover to his man on time and prevent both a open jump shot or drive to the basket. Typically this is a big man award but Lebron is a special player and he's one of the few wing players to ever play this game to be able to effect the game on the defensive end as much as he does.
My Candidates:
1. Dwight Howard
2. Tyson Chandler
3. Lebron James
4. Serge Ibaka
5. Shawn Marion

Rookie of the Year - Kyrie Irving

18.8 PPG, 5.5 APG, 3.8 RPG, 1.1 SPG, 0.4 BPG, 46.8% FG, 21.43 PER
This was another easy selection for the panel as only a few panelist voted for someone else as the rookie of the year. Kyrie had an incredible season and showed signs that he was very much worth the 1st overall pick and that he might one day be a superstar and elite PG in this league. I think after just one year he has surpassed every single you PG not named Rose and Westbrook and is already top 10 at his position. If Cleveland gets adequate talent around him they can get into the playoffs next year.
My Candidates:
1. Kyrie Irving
2. Ricky Rubio
3. Chandler Parsons
4. Kawhi Leonard
5. Brandon Knight

6th Man of the Year - James Harden

16.8 PPG, 3.7 APG, 4.1 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 49% FG, 21.13 PER
This was the easiest decision of all the awards for the panel as this was the only unanimous decision we came too. It's a complete no brainer that Harden will be the 6th man of the year and he deserves it. He joined the ranks of the top 5 SGs in the NBA after the season he had this year in my opinion and has become a all star caliber talent. The improvements in his game from last year to this one are very evident and their also a huge reason why OKC is favored by many to win the West.
My Candidates:
1. James Harden
2. Louis Williams
3. Mo Williams
4. Thaddeus Young
5. Al Harrington

Most Improved Player - Andrew Bynum

18.7 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 1.4 APG, 1.9 BPG, 0.5 SPG, 55.8% FG, 23.01 PER
This was a close race but the majority of the panel felt like this award should go to Andrew Bynum and that was my pick as well. Greg Monroe and Jeremy Lin both deserve high consideration and I think Lin might have actually won it had he stayed healthy the whole year but you gotta go with Bynum on this. Just last season Bynum was averaging 11 a game and was just considered a decent C with potential. This season he's an all star and the 2nd best Big man in all of basketball and has become the 2nd best player on his team surpassing Gasol who's still a good player in his own right. The improvement in his game is just undeniable. He's more confident in himself and he knows he's one of the best in the league and this year has a desire to want the ball on offense and score it. He's asserted his will on just about everybody all year as he's bigger and stronger than his opponent just about every night.
My Candidates:
1. Andrew Bynum
2. Jeremy Lin
3. Greg Monroe
4. Demarcus Cousins
5. James Harden

Coach of the Year - Gregg Popavich and Tom Thibodeau

This was the closest race of all the awards. The panel couldn't come to an agreement so we have co coaches of the year. Both Popavich and Thibodeau tied for the most votes from the panel. Both are very deserving of this award and I honestly believe this is the best way to do it. Coming into the year everyone wrote the Spurs off because of what happened last season in the playoffs and their right back at the top of the west again. As for the Bulls their best player missed half the season and they finished with the best record in the NBA. If that's not coach of the year material I don't know what is.

My Candidates:
1. Greg Popavich
2. Tom Thibodeau
3. Frank Vogel
4. Doc Rivers
5. Scott Brooks
